My National Youth Service Portfolio
Bernice Antoine has had an early introduction to youth development, through her involvement in the Girl Guides Association of Trinidad and Tobago at the age of six. Being involved in Girl Guides meant her life was filled with mentorship, leadership and life skill learning. Since then, she has moved up the ranks from Brownie to Ranger Guides, using her guiding journey to propel her into the youth advocacy realm. She recently held a 16 Days of Activism Campaign that was recognized by the World Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Association’s Global Advocacy Lead.
In 2021, Bernice serves as the Operations Officer of Trinidad and Tobago Youth Advocacy Network. Here she assesses and updates current procedures policies to reflect recent development. She also undergoes monthly progress checks, overseeing, budget review and recommendations to the TTYAN’s committees. Inclusive of mental health, gender-based violence and 4 other committees.
As the Director of Policy and Advocacy of the Willow Foundation, she chairs the PAA committee. In this portfolio her team has executed a successful 12 Days of Willow Women Campaign and continues to serve in the Willow Foundation grassroots activities.
Being nominated as the female co-chair for the Youth Advisory Group of the UNFPA at 19 was another mammoth task she rose up to. Here she advocates for sexual and reproductive rights for young persons and consults with the UNFPA to offer the youth perspective on their projects. This capacity has led her to attend regional and national conferences and consultations on the HIV Policy, Minors
